K9 Action Training Systems “KATS”
Cinder Summit Advancement, LLC (CSA) is forging a new paradigm in K-9 scenario-based and STX lanes training. K9 Action Training Systems (KATS) is a joint venture training program founded by Luchian Burke and Tim Thomas. Collectively we have taken combined operational combat experiences from former Special Operations professionals to generate a progressive modular scenario-based training program to meet the needs of current SOF or Conventional forces , Inter-Branch and Inter-Agency, LE K9 and contract K9 teams. Courses are designed to expose handlers and their K9 partners to the stresses of rapidly evolving critical events. We develop smarter K9 teams to reach their peak potential and prepare them to succeed during the difficulties and challenges they will face when deployed in theater of operation.
The Multi-Purpose Canine (MPC) MT Course is a (7) day course, in Alaska, that covers practical applications of deployment, sustainment and utilization for MWD’s, SRT’s and SOF-MPC teams in a variety of Alaska’s weather and austere mountainous environments and 4 types of soils. The course is designed to expose working dog teams to varying degrees of harsh and rapidly changing weather (Hot or Cold) conditions and altitudes while providing education on the specifics of high angle descending/ascending with minimal gear, detection, transitional detection, patrol work, long range tracking, equipment selection, and methods of movement and transport in a mountainous environment. This course is designed to build confidence and trust between handler and K9 and increase the capabilities and skill sets of K9 teams by exposing both K9 and handlers to progressively increasing environmental and operational stressors and situations during scenario-based training in order to further support US efforts towards the Global War on Terrorism and The Global War on Drugs.
We have the personnel, knowledge and experience to bridge the tactical knowledge and terminology gaps that exists in inter-agency and inter-branch operations. As mission requirements change, so can we. It has become apparent to us that although you can create a tool to do many jobs, you can’t create a tool to do all jobs, which is why we direct so much of our focus to each challenge we face. This allows us to implement lessons learned, advance our training techniques, grow overall, and delivering a better product to you each and every time.

7 Day Course
Cinder Summit Advancement (CSA) has designed this course to meet current and future operational needs of SOF or Conventional units. Our remote location allows for maximum training with no distractions in a 16-day period minimizing effects on unit PERSTEMPO. The course is designed to expose MPC teams to the varied and rugged geography of a mountainous environment along with its unique wind patterns that greatly affect the MPC’s ability to detect odor, while providing training and practical applications of high angle descending/ascending, improvised and limited equipment traverse of mountain obstacles.
Subterranean training is also included to meet possible future needs. Individual unit courses can be custom tailored to cover all core MPC functions if needed. Teams will be require to effectively and successfully demonstrate patrol work in a mountainous environment, explosive detection, tracking / trailing, building searches, area searches, mounted and dismounted infiltrations, airborne / MFF / Air assault infiltrations (unit coordinated, CSA supported), vehicle searches/ interdictions, and tactical obedience all in increasingly difficult training events.
Addon : Final exercises can be run IAW SOF/Conventional MPC certification standards (Unit Master Trainer may attend to certify teams) if requested.
